Our expert doctors use a variety of techniques for adjusting your neck, back, and extremities. Adjustments are shown to have a variety of benefits. These benefits include increased range of motion, decreased muscle spasm, decreased pain levels, and improved overall function.
What Exactly is an Adjustment?
Adjustments are the most common form of treatment used by chiropractors. Our doctors pride themselves on administering the most effective and gentle treatment possible.
Adjustments are high velocity, low amplitude manipulation of joints. This rapid motion causes temporary gapping of joints and allows for therapeutic effects to take place. As a result, patients feel much better following adjustments.
Our doctors most commonly uses manual adjustments and patients are most familiar with this method. It uses manipulation by the doctors hands and commonly produces the “pop“. Our elite doctors do what they can to make sure your adjustments are gentle. An adjustment delivered in this manner can be unsettling the first time and our doctors realize this. They will be patient with you and walk you through the entire process.
Thompson Drop Adjustments
The drop method is an assisted technique. As a result of this assistance, it is lower impact, and more reliant of natural spinal motion. Initially, the table will elevate your hips and low back. Then, your physician will methodically press on your hips or back, causing you to feel a short drop accompanied by the sound of the drop piece. Finally, the low-impact drop will mimic your spines natural motion. As a result, this will aid your body in restoring the motion needed to function.
Activator/Impulse Adjusting Instruments
This method of adjustment is low impact. The activator is based on speed and not so much on force. The IAI will deliver a set of rapid impulses to move your joints before your body tightens up. Patients who have bone weakening disorders, or are just nervous about their adjustment will better respond to IAI. However, medical research states the IAI is just as effective as the manual or drop table adjustments.
Below are a couple examples of typical chiropractic adjustments.
As with any procedure, there are risks of care. Most commonly soreness will arise following your adjustment. This is normal and may last 1-2 days. You will feel the same type of soreness post-exercise. If you begin to experience symptoms following your care, please contact us if you are worried. The worst case scenario includes worsening of symptoms due to muscle memory re-pinching nerves or recompressing joints.

Passive therapies aid in decreasing pain and improving the rate at which your body heals. Below are the various therapies we use to get you back to health. When you’re finished reading up about the therapies, explore our pages on massage, exercises, or our wellness care.
Hydrotherapy uses water pressure and heat to massage and loosen the muscles while simultaneously increasing local blood circulation for increased healing. In addition, the hydro-beds are comfortable and relax patients before their adjustments. Temporary itching is a common side-effect because of the increased circulation.
Intersegmental traction utilizes roller bed technology to loosen and release restricted joint segments. We can increase or decrease the pressure applied to your back and even control where in your spine we use the therapy. Our doctors recommend traction or hydrotherapy prior to your visit.
Therapeutic ultrasound encompasses multiple health benefits. These include soft tissue healing, remodeling damaged tissues, increased local circulation, and decreased inflammation. Therapeutic ultrasound uses a conductive gel and wand that houses a small crystal. High frequency vibrations of the crystal produce a healing effect on soft tissues. This is an ideal therapy for sprain/strain injuries, or chronic cases where scar tissue has built up.
Electrical Stimulation, also referred to as E-stim, TENS, or EMS, will break up muscle spasm and decrease pain levels. Electrodes deliver a microcurrent to a designated area of the body. Number, pattern, and settings are dependant on the condition you present with. E-Stim transfers an electrical current and stimulates muscular contracture, fatiguing the muscle.
Healing takes place at a faster rate when we combine ultrasound and e-stim. Therefore, combination of the two are most frequently used.
You will feel a tingling sensation that will increase in intensity so long as you are comfortable. In addition, since the current from the electrode acts like a nerve, you may experience involuntary muscle contractions.
More information on electrical stimulation can be found here.
Diathermy warms certain body parts using IR waves. This therapy is capable of penetrating to deeper tissues and helps destroy damaged tissues. In addition, diathermy will help promote clotting, relieve pain, and promote. While undergoing therapy, you will feel a gentle warming sensation. Diathermy is exceptionally good for treating extremities.
Decompression therapy treats patients who are suffering from disc bulges in their neck or low back. Our Elite doctors will set you up on the decompression before therapy. Decompression provides a pulling, similar to an intense stretch. This decompressive forces creates a negative pressure in the spine. This force effectively acts like a vacuum to suck the disc back into place. As a result of the stretching, patients are commonly sore afterwards.
We utilize laser therapy as a form of therapy to promote local circulation and improve healing rates of soft tissues. Laser will offer temporary relief from conditions such as osteoarthritis or whiplash.
LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, HAVE ANY METAL, PACEMAKERS, OR ANY OTHER IMPLANTED DEVICES. ANY OF THESE CAN ALTER CARE SO PLEASE LET US KNOW BEFORE WE BEGIN.
We believe in getting you out of pain by treating the cause. Remember, pain is not a problem, it is the result. We begin care with a passive phase of care using therapies. Once pain has diminished and function returns, we will walk you through home rehab exercises. These exercises stabilize and strengthen the affected area. The goal of these exercises is to prevent re-injury or progression. You can think of treatment like building a wall. The passive care forms the structure but the exercises lay the cement.
This page will discuss a few of the more common issues we see and how we treat them.
While performing any exercises, you should not have any pain. If at any time you experience pain, STOP IMMEDIATELY!
Forward Head Carriage
Forward head carriage is a common finding in people who have desk jobs, sit for prolonged amounts of time, or spend a lot of time on their phone. Consequently, the muscles in the front of the neck will tighten up and muscles at the back of the neck and shoulders will compress on nerves causing pain and headaches. Through a combination of stretching and strengthening exercises, we correct these imbalances. This will restore the natural curvature of your neck. Rounded shoulders accompany forward head carriage. Because of this, we work to being the shoulders back to proper alignment.
Slumping forward to increase the curvature in between the shoulder blades results in increased kyphosis. As a result, this creates the dreaded buffalo hump that is common in older women. With proper strengthening exercises between the shoulder blades, you can prevent excessive kyphosis
Sway back is the term used to describe increased curvature in the low back. Increased curvature compresses the vertebral joints and nerves. Strengthening exercises of the erector muscles and stretching of the hamstrings will alleviate pressure from the joints and the nerve roots, providing relief. Naturally, pregnant women classically display sway-back.
Anterior Pelvic Tilt
Anterior pelvic tilt results when you have tight back extensors, tight frontal hip flexors, weak glutes, and weak abdominals. Therefore, strengthening and stretching are usually sufficient to aid is correcting pelvic tilt.
Pinching of the sciatic nerve can result in pain that travels to the knee or foot. It can also be accompanied by weakness, numbness, or tingling and can be extremely painful. Therefore, stretching of the muscles that cover the sciatic nerve will release pressure. Exercises focus on relieving pressure from the nerve. Therefore, relief is obtained by stretching.
